McCall’s Quilting September/October 2013 issue was just released and you’ve got to check it out. My “Mint Julep” quilt is one of the projects! As many of you know, I love green. One day I purchased almost every solid green I could get my hands on from Fabric Depot up in Portland. In my world, green is a neutral! I’m also a big fan of Kaffe Fasset fabrics and so it’s only natural that I combine the two. Kaffe fabrics are so intense and rich in color which I think plays really well with solids. I took all the fabrics and my pattern ideas up with me up to Sisters when I stayed with Sheila Sinclair Snyder for a couple days before the annual Sisters Quilt Show. We played around with the design and the Mint Julep was born! She helped me sew it together over the next day, and then home it went….and sat….until the quilting process began. And of course I had to have Sheila’s thoughts on the brainstorming process…two heads are better than one! What would I do without my quilting buddies? The final result is happy and fun and colorful!
And I guess Tracee Doran, graphic designer for McCall’s Quilting thought it was pretty cool because she whipped out one in pink….I love it! So I hope you make one too – and if you do, please send me a picture of it. I would love to showcase it on my blog!

Happy quilting!
This just in from Sharon: I just picked up my copy of McCall Quilting last night, and I LOVE your Mint Julep pattern! I too, love the green. You have inspired me to pick up more plain fabric as that is the smallest part of my stash. What really pops on the plain, is the quilting. I’m a longarm quilter too, so I know this it is just that my eye is so drawn to the pretty pattern fabric- I get distracted! Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me what swirl pattern you used, it’s so lovely. I love how you mixed your patterns. Your quilting is exquisite.
Making your pattern will be a wonderful step out of the box for me.
Thanks,
Sharon
