Modern Baby Quilt Design

This is a stash-buster baby quilt! OK, so you don’t need a lot of fabric, but it’s challenging and fun to be able to design a quilt from your stash. I designed this block using just three pieces, and then placed them in rows facing the same way (although I think it would look good if the blocks were randomly turned too).

As this baby is going to be a girl, I wanted the quilt to be modern and happy and playful, I added my own hand-dyed pinks, some crazy lime colors, and a variety of large scale mixed bits and pieces of happy fabrics. For the quilting I did a simple swirly overall pattern. All in all, I think it turned out just the way I wanted it to. A modern baby quilt for a modern mom!

I bound it in the hand-dyed fabric, put a label on the back, washed it so it was ready for it’s first use (soon!) and it was delivered to the baby’s mom today….in advance of her little girl’s birth. Who knew I could stay on schedule? Ha!
