Live Christmas Tree

Our Christmas tree was brought in from the cold yesterday. It’s a live tree (has a root ball) which we will plant on the property after the holiday. This year’s tree is a Cedrus Deodara “Aurea” and it is mostly green tinged with yellow/white at the ends of each branch. It is about 15′ tall.

This year we had about a dozen 100 foot trees cut down around the house. That left some beautiful views of the lake, but we also lost some screening from surrounding properties. So along with this Christmas tree, a dozen or so other small live trees were planted to replace the large ones that were cut down. And so, this year’s Christmas tree will also be planted in that area…a location has already been picked out in the yard for it!

Merry Christmas to all!

2017 Christmas Tree has Arrived!

We went on our annual Christmas Tree excursion and once again we headed north to a nursery northwest of Kaiser. We got to take the car and trailer over the Wheatland Ferry across the Willamette! Very exciting stuff as this was our first ride across, which took about 5 minutes (if that).

This year we brought home a live 12 foot tall Cedrus Deodara “Aurea” and she is a beauty! We won’t bring her inside until just before Christmas and then we will decorate it with all the Star Trek ornaments (duh). She can only be inside for about a week. Then after the holidays she gets planted on the property somewhere.

It’s a very fun tradition, and hopefully good for the planet too. Happy holidays!
